Review: LUSH Curly Wurly Shampoo

Being a fragrance freak, I always love products those carry strong fragrance, but in a good way. So its obvious for me to fall in love with the Lush and I was overwhelmed when I went to the store for the first time!

Curly Wurly and American Cream were my first Lush purchase. I was looking for a shampoo and a conditioner that would help me to tame my curls and the SA handed me Curly Wurly (shampoo) and American Cream (conditioner).

What Lush says:

"COCONUT-Y SHAMPOO FOR CALMING CURLS AND FRIZZ
Curly hair needs lots of moisturizing – but no one wants their curls to feel heavy and weighed down. You’re in luck! Curly Wurly shampoo keeps your unruly and out of control curls soft, shiny and bouncy. How does it do it? Fresh, nutritious ingredients work wonders for frizzy hair. It's packed full of nutritious creamed coconut and coconut oil for healthy hair and scalp, and with moisturizing vanilla, protein-rich fresh eggs and hand mashed avocado butter to give moisture back to hair and eliminate frizz. C’mon, give it a Wurl."

Lush products are made from natural ingredients minus the preservatives. Curly Wurly contains coconut, vanilla, coco butter, lemon juice and papaya. Hope you can read the ingredients here.

What do I think? Well, when the SA rubbed a tiny amount on my hand, I was overwhelmed by the scent. I bought the tub home immediately and used it. The scent stayed in my hair for 3-4 days! Curly Wurly is different from all other shampoos I have used till date. It doesn't look much like regular shampoo, rather looks a bit like face mask or scrub.

It lathers well and you have to wet your hair really really well to work it evenly on your hair. Reason?
Well, the shampoo is quite thick and has chunkier bits of coconuts in it. This is the thing I hate most about this shampoo. I don't understand, if the shampoo is really meant for curly hair, then why there are so many coconut flecks in it, which adds to the misery of curly hair? A big disappointment, Lush!

It doesn't make my scalp too greasy or too dry, neither it weighs my hair down, instead, while it leaves my hair soft, it also makes it quite fluffy and I have to really condition my hair well and add leave on conditioner to manage it. But I have noticed that, if I do not wash my hair for 3 days, it tends to make my hair look a bit greasy.

How I use it? I take a reasonable amount of this shampoo on my palm, add just few drops of water, even it out on my palms, then apply to 100% wet hair. Work in my hair and then wash. The hair catches every bit of coconut chunks and to avoid this annoying behavior of this shampoo, I rinse it off with my head downward with a strong jet of water.

The packaging can appear a bit clumsy from person to person, as it doesn't come in a traditional shampoo bottle, but rather in a pot. But again the consistency of the shampoo would have made it harder to come through a regular shampoo bottle, no matter if its a squeeze/pump bottle.

The price is a bit hard for the wallet too, its CA$25.95 (excluding tax) for 220gm.

Honestly, I ABSOLUTELY love the scent of this shampoo while the shampoo doesn't hit my favorite list. If I repurchase ever again, it will be just because I am extremely fond of the scent, but if you want to give it a try for taming your curls, I think you should try a sample size first. I won't recommend it for calming curly hair, but I would recommend, if you want your hair to smell beautiful for days.

Did you use Curly Wurly? How do you find it?

Love and Respect,
Eeshita.
